A Pole brought up in Kazakhstan where she got her master’s degree in pedagogy (specialization: dance teacher). She also completed post-graduate and doctoral studies at the Omsk University of Physical Education obtaining trainer’s qualifications.

After her graduation, Ilona worked as a dance group choreographer, and a lecturer at the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Education at Karaganda State University. From 1999 to 2016, she was a coach at the Olympic Gymnastics School in Karaganda.

In December 2019, Ilona joined Poland’s largest rhythmic gymnastics club RG Legia Warszawa.
